Speaking of the Viper Brothers.. The Viper Brothers: Just Out of Jail (懲役太郎 まむしの兄弟) (Japan, 1971) [DVD] - 2/5 Part 1 in a long running (8+1 films) action/comedy/melodrama series about a pair of short tempered, amoral, but not evil chinpira (Bunta Sugawara and Tamio Kawaji) thinking too big of themse...

And finally, bottom of the barrel, Hell in a Bottle (1986) . The poster art is great, and indeed there is a girl in a bottle at the end, but otherwise this is just a series of cheap sex scenes, much more like an AV flick than a real Nikkatsu film. http://bulletsnbabesdvd.com/forums/upload/HungFist/...

Re: Classic Japanese Exploitation (pinky violence & pink)

It's been a while since I did one of these posts, partially because I stopped buying the Happinet releases in bulk, partially because the last couple batches have included very few titles I had any interest in whatsoever and mainly because the Happinet covers are so consistently DOGSHIT that it hard...

Re: The Eye's Dream (Dream of Eyeball) (Hisayasu Sato, 2016)

I felt like watching another Sato film and was able to find his 1993 film 快感ONANIE 新妻篇 (Pleasant Masturbation: New Wife Chapter) on a VOD site under its theatrical re-release title 美人妻 薄毛の柔肌 (Beautiful Wife: Hairless Soft Skin). The reason I picked this one is that it turns out the Hana-Dama films a...

Wicked City (妖獣都市) (Japan, 1987) [DVD] - 3/5 Horror anime misses its noir potential by being too fast paced and technically video-like; however, it's packed with impressively grotesque monster imagery and explicit sex. Yoshihiro Nishimura seems to have been highly influenced by this when he made To...

Re: The Eye's Dream (Dream of Eyeball) (Hisayasu Sato, 2016)

I watched the DVD of 可愛い悪魔 / Cute Devil recently and it is indeed a bit of a step backward in quality for Sato after the complete masterpiece that was Hana Dama: Phantom. I bring up Hana Dama for more than one reason because obviously Hana Dama's screenwriter Shinji Imaoka also wrote this film and I...

Got the chance to see this on Thursday, a mere three weeks after its world premiere at Venice. I'm pretty sure it was my first theatrical Tsukamoto, too. The film is probably my favorite among his most recent output. It's very obvious that it was shot on the same digital equipment as his last couple...

Mandy DCP 4/5 Beyond the Black Rainbow was one of my most anticipated films of the the year it came out and also one of the biggest disappointments when I actually watched it. Maybe it was the lowered expectations but I really dug Mandy. It's basically a 1980ies Heavy Metal comic come to life, a mi...

Speaking of Sone, Happinet will also re-release his 元祖大四畳半大物語 (1980) on October 2nd. This is a slice-of-life comedy based on a manga by Leiji Matsumoto about a country bumpkin moving into a tiny apartment (the 4 and a half tatami mats of the title) in Tokyo and the wacky shenenigans that ensue. It w...

I'm really curious what the Japanese fandom thinks of these transfers. There probably isn't much to be found just based on the Toei Channel broadcast but I expect them to get a BD box set sooner or later and I'm already looking forward to those amazon reviews.

I am generally supportive of Arrow and their releases. I mean, they put/will put WOLFGUY and HORRORS OF MALFOPRMED MEN on Blu-ray. They are releasing an Akio Jissoji ATG film box set. I can't be anything but supportive of all that, especially since I don't see anybody else willing to touch these tit...
