Re: Colonel Panics (Cho Jinseok, Yoshihiro Nishimura) (2016)

Yes, it was Germany and I will probably hold out for that. Midori Impuls is handling the release there. They're a fairly new label but are already buying up a lot of the same films we're discussing here. For 2018 they have already announced as dual DVD/BD releases: - Dream of Eyeball (Sato) - Meatba...

Re: Colonel Panics (Cho Jinseok, Yoshihiro Nishimura) (2016)

Excellent news but it's pretty annoying that Japan seems to have not yet fully embraced the Blu-ray format. Lower budget and smaller films keep getting DVD only releases

Another case of an actress deeply regretting her decision to appear in roman porno? That'd be my first guess. Anyway, let's be thankful it's a mediocre flick that got cancelled and not one we were really looking forward to getting a BD.

TOKYO VAMPIRE HOTEL has been edited from its series format into an 142 minute feature film, which is how it is to play film festivals and how it is shopped around to Western distributors.

Or you could use a proxy service like celga.com and let them deal with amazon or the sellers there before passing the good on to you. Of course they charge you a fee for it so take that into account.

Re: Kodoku Meatball Machine (Yoshihiro Nishimura, 2016)

I didn't mind the drama during the introduction and thought this would be a real return to form by Nishimura when the monster mutant carnage started. Unfortunately, there is indeed some lamentable CGI and the mutant smackdowns get repetitive after a while. It was better than NINJA WAR though.

Re: The Mole Song 2 (Takashi Miike, 2016)

I'd say the sequel is an improvement over the original as this time around the relative darkness of the story (concerning a human trafficking ring) is a nice contrast to the wacky cat and squirrel yakuza clans and grade school level sexual humor. I also kind of like this stylized yakuza world where ...

Yeah, I'll sit this one out. I should have but I didn't. Fans of the source manga/anime may have a different reaction but this predictably overlong slog just wasn't for me. I somewhat enjoyed a bit where a villain controls a toy army and uses its tanks, helicopers and soldiers to attack the protago...

BLADE OF THE IMMORTAL turned out to be one of the more watchable current Miike flicks. Definitely runs a bit too long but makes up for it with a decent amount of violence and gore during the plentiful fight scenes. The CGI is limited to the magical blood parasites that stitch the hero back together ...
