Re: I've just got banned from KFC!

Oh yeah for sure, but seeing as chen's now posting as a kind of pseudo representative of 88Films as a contributor to these releases, if he did tell anyone to piss off you can bet Magic and other members over there will jump on him and slag 88Films off for insulting their customers, etc. I've seen th...

Re: I've just got banned from KFC!

I've always been against ignore lists just on principal, but I must admit Blu-ray.com is probably the one place that practically begs you to start using it. The problem with ignore lists though is when a member decides to take your comments completely out of context, play the victim and practically ...

Re: I've just got banned from KFC!

Damn, I missed all the action! I didn't notice you got banned again Mark, as you say there's nothing you can do when this happens and the mods there definitely have a tendency to either play favourites or just somehow completely overlook offending posts while deleting others. I kinda feel like there...

Re: I've just got banned from KFC!

I think I've only been banned five or six times over on Bluray.com, but they ramp up the length of the banning with each subsequent ban, so the last time I got banned I was out for just under a month. I guess that's why it might seem like I get banned a lot. The reasons for a number of my bannings h...

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Very much agreed. I think there was an era in Japanese cinema in the early 70s when much of the cinema had a bit of an identity crisis. They were coming from the romantic and heroic 60s (if you allow a huge generalization) and heading towards the gritty and exploitative 70s. That transition took a ...

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Yeah I think as Katsu started to get more control over the franchise he made it more exploitative and imo that tone just didn't suit Zatoichi. I dunno if he was trying to compete with his aniki's Lone Wolf and Cub films but some of the stuff in one of those last 70s Zato films is just crass (a gang ...

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Which ones would you consider the best films in the series? How about the worst? Some of the best i would say: The Tale of Zatoichi, The Tale of Zatoichi Continues, Zatoichi and the Chest of Gold, Zatoichi and the Chess Expert, Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo. It's kinda hard to decide between many of the o...

Re: What asian film/series have you just seen.. marks out of 5

Zatoichi and the Chess Expert (座頭市地獄旅) (Japan, 1965) [BD] - 4/5 Part 12. Zatoichi films are similar to ninkyo yakuza films in the sense that their quality doesn't come so down so much to originality as to how beautifully they recite the usual formula. In Zatoichi films the basic patter is that of a...

Re: The big Bullets debate : "The Death of Hardcopy"

At the end of the day though it's the new mainstream releases that decides the fate of the format and so far I can't remember any major new releases that came out on DVD or streaming only (aside from Netflix/amazon productions of course, but even these seem to eventually make their way to the format...

Re: The big Bullets debate : "The Death of Hardcopy"

It looks healthy to me, more and more classics come out every month and there doesn't seem to be any slowing down of that, obviously new releases all hit BD as well so I'm not really seeing how the format will be dead any time soon. Obviously as time goes on codecs are gonna get better and better an...

Not quite, she doesn't "know" if she's human any more because the only part of her original body left is her brain, so she struggles with the idea of whether she's still "her", ie: Has she already died and what's left is just a cyber memory of her former self? Is her "ghost" actually her consciousne...

Re: The General DVD/HD Disc Bargains Thread!

That "interlacing" glitch was just a baseless accusation made by an idiot reviewer at DVDTalk who didn't stop to ponder whether the manipulation of framerates to speed up the action sequences might have been responsible for the blurring effect. I mean really, why on earth would there be any form of ...

Re: The General DVD/HD Disc Bargains Thread!

They've fudged the release, it's the old disc repackaged. Expect it to be pulled and replacement schemes to be in place soon enough (just like what happened with Bad Boys).

Re: Criterion's Lone Wolf & Cub BD set

The Arrow BD looks closer to the theatrical presentation, although it sadly has weak blacks and I'd say the colors are a slightly pale as well. It has the wrong dynamic range so the blacks are thin and the colours and everything else about the image looks "milky". This is a very common issue with J...

That photo's pretty good, but for some reason they also did this horrible photoshopped mock up "thing" to publicise the costume as well. Not sure what they were thinking with that, looked like something knocked up in 5mins by a ten -yr-old.

Yeah I've seen clips of Seagal running before, wtf is up with that? Semen Seagal: The Gargantuan Gobbler. I reckon he'd have a larger viewer base doing that than these shitty DTV flicks! Has that Above the Law sequel gone into production yet? They might have that out by January!
