Red Sparrow (2018): 3.5/5

Intriguing mystery/spy thriller is a good watch but can get confusing at times. Ocassionally it's also a bit nasty.

101 Dalmatians (1961): 3/5

Middle tier Disney, the film suffers from limited, rough looking animation and too simplistic a story stretched out over 75 minutes. Nice jazzy score though, and I liked some of the jokes/references at the expense of TV of the time.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975): 4/5

Excellent drama movie, very darkly comic in places and disturbing in others especially the electric shock treatment and when Billy kills himself.
Why did the Chief kill McMurphy at the end? I thought he wanted to escape with him?

The Prestige (2006): 4/5 Atmospheric mystery involving rival magicians in the late 19th century/early 20th century, the performances are good, especially Hugh Jackman and Michael Caine, some of the twists were good though multiple use of people having twins feels rather cheap - I didnt spot that Ang...

The Lady Assassin (Vietnam, 2013): 3.5/5 Enjoyable, felt like an early 90's HK film in many ways - aside from quasi 3D (?) and a fun volleyball training sequence that resembled something like Shaolin Soccer. There's even some songs (which arent translated for some reason). Plenty of wirework and sl...

Paddy tells his wife "My bumhole is burning really bad, I've no idea what it is"
"Ring sting" says his wife.
"How the fuck would he know?!" replied Paddy.

The Body (Spain, 2012): 4/5

Clever mystery thriller that keeps you guessing, reminded me of 'Les Diaboliques' (1955) and Hitchcock in places. There's a twist at the end which I did not see coming

The Executioner 2 - Karate Inferno: 4/5 This film is crazy at times with not as much as action as the first - but it is funny :D There's a silly scene involving superglue, and a great bit, during a heist scene where Chiba saves his partner from burning by pissing on him  Maybe this inspired so...

Open Grave: 3.5/5 A man wakes up in a pit full of dead bodies. He has no memory of how he got there. He finds a house full of strangers who have all lost their memory like him. The question is, who has killed all those people? How? Often confusing, but an intriguing, very creepy mystery story and th...

Re: Sonny Chiba Mega Review Thread

Why doesn't the 'Japanese version' of KB Vol.1 seem to available on Blu Ray? Just seems to daft to me :?

The only annoying thing about the DVD is there isnt a seperate subtitle track for the occasional Japanese dialogue. Otherwise very good.
I loved seeing KB in the cinema, just great :D

Justice League: 3.5/5 A superhero team of Batman (a gruff Ben Affleck) Wonder Woman (the gorgeous Gal Gadot) and others battle against an evil force that could destroy the planet. Volver (Spain, 2006): 4/5

Quirky comic drama with a touch of mystery, involving 3 generations of women. I enjoyed it.

Raimunda and her sister Sole lost their parents in a tragic fire years ago... or did they?

Penelope Cruz is so damn beautiful in this film :)

Le Samourai (1967, France): 4/5

A stylish police story, I hadnt seen this since I tried watching it in college. The pace is slow in places and theres not a lot of dialogue, but it's well acted and not boring. There's shades of Woo's The Killer in there.

Back in Action (1994): 3.5/5

Cheesy mid-90's DTV actioner, somehow very entertaining. Heavily pre-cut and butchered by the BBFC back in the day but uncensored on the DVD.

My Way (South Korea, 2011): 4.25/5

Well acted, violent war action-drama is sometimes harrowing, reminded me of Woo's Bullet in the Head in places.
