The Arrival: Original 1997 DVD vs. 2009 Blu-ray *LARGE PIX*

Top: 1997 DVD (non-anamorphic laserdisc master) Bottom: 2009 Blu-ray There's no competition here. A non-anamorphic DVD made before the millennium stands no contest in beating out a new high definition transfer. However that doesn't mean the blu-ray is great. The detail levels seem about right, no pr...

I like the look of the R2 better. Not sure which colours are correct but if i had to guess Id say R2. R1 seems soft but maybe that's due to over sharpened R2??

So I've seen it twice. Oh my God the second viewing is required. I loved it even more the second time. Easy 8/10 for me. My main complaint is the shaky cam ruining some of the action scenes but other than that I have no real complaints. I love the idea of Greene creating a drought. Throughout it you...

If anyone has access to the new blu-rays I highly recommend the new live and let die BD as it is now the best version out there. The title sequence has been corrected and the contrast boosting and clipping is non-existant. It looks fantastic, no visible DNR either!

The THX mastered disc is the best, even beating the new blu-ray! There's is such terrible DNR on the Anchorbay BOTD and the BD that it completely robs the picture of detail.

I own the USA Blu-ray and yeah it's not that great of a disc. I always had the R1 non-anamorphic disc so for me it was worth it but it could and should have been way better.

The DNR looks way worse in person. But it tops any DVD. This DNR shit has got to end now though, this would've easily been an excellent transfer but the goddamn noise reduction smudges all the detail away and in motion causes blurring.

exactly so there must be many prints that have this sort of cropping. It's quite odd though at one scene it works perfectly because it removes a boom mic from the shot. :?

Don May Jr. who was hired to restore the new HD print for Dimension, had this to say over at HTF: "OK, I am reading this thread and I have to jump in. When I did the original Elite version of NOTLD, just to set the record straight, the entire IMAGE TEN team (including Romero) was involved in every s...

The new transfer is from the original negative scanned at 4K resolution. Robert Harris worked on this transfer and the colour's are corrected to how they looked when the movies first came out. Wait until we see them for ourselves though, I always find that some websites don't have very good capturin...

American Psycho: R1 Uncut DVD vs. R1 Uncut Blu-ray Disc

American Psycho Top: R1 DVD Bottom: Blu-ray Blu-ray Disc screen captures are from the AVS forum. The 1080P Blu-ray Disc easily surpasses the DVD in picture quality. However, there are flaws inherent in both transfer that keep this Blu-ray from completely succeeding. There is constant ringing in bot...

The PCM track was the main selling point for me. This movie has one of my most favourite soundtracks and it sounds glorious at 4.6 MBPS. The music is just powerful.

another Unbreakable review here-a very disappointing effort apparently (i haven't watched mine yet) That's a shame. I have read it looks better to the existing DVD though. Unbreakable Top: R1 DVD Bottom: Blu-ray These captures were posted over at the AVSFORUM. Overall there are great improvements in detail. The grey/blue colour suits that scene much better because it takes place during the winter, the day after an ice storm. Ang did a commentary for this release specifically and again Criterion says he personally supervised the telecine transfer along with the DP.
