Just a random post but not sure where else to put it... has anyone else pointed out that Kanye West (or director Nick Night) totally ripped off the motorcycle sex scene from Queen Bee's Counterattack in his Bound 2 video? wtf

Please stop posting stories like this. You're making me extremely envious and long to return to Japan. ;-)

No please, keep going. Keeping a list of places to visit when I can get over there again.

Re: Classic Japanese Exploitation (pinky violence & pink)

thanks HungFist, verification of my thoughts is much appreciated!
I'll just look at these films as one director's arc of his interests and the popularity of subject matter at the time, not a definitive "series" per se

Re: Classic Japanese Exploitation (pinky violence & pink)

Just a quick question that hoping someone can answer. I've seen the series of Ero guro/pinky violence films by Terou Ishii referred to as the "Tokugawa Era" series. Here is what seems to be the agreed on list: 1) Tokugawa: Woman Genealogy [Tokugawa Onna Keizu] {徳川女系図} (5/1/1968) 2) Shogun'...

On the Pinku front, I noticed that Amazon (US) has a bunch of Nikkatsu Roman Porno early 80s films for sale now, put out by Impulse Pictures under the "Nikkatsu Erotic Films Collection" header. Anyone check these out yet? Apologies if this is covered in another thread. Here are the ones I ...

Berserk is phenomenally good, christ is it painful being a fan of the manga though! Fantastic work from Hirasawa on that show as well, I regularly blast Forces out of my speakers. You revisiting it as a refresher before the new series next year? New series next year??? I had no idea!! No, I ...

Never heard of "The Great Emperor's Concubine" but yes The Emperor and the Assassin is good and Seven Swords is very good :) Welcome to BnB :) Thanks! I liked Great Conqueror's Concubine quite a bit, but then again any time Gong Li is on the screen I'm captivated. It's a long, long movie ...

Re: Departures aka Okuribito wins Best Foreign Film, Oscars 2008

Saw this last night - very good film! Lots of emotional scenes and some funny parts as well with nice acting all around. I'll have to see Waltz with Bashir to determine if it deserved the Oscar. More than anything it made me want to visit the province it was set in (I think it was Yamagata).

Re: Recent HK historical epics...

Not so recent, but some good Gong Li ones are "The Emperor and the Assassin" from 1998 and "The Great Conqueror's Concubine (there are two parts) from 1994.
Also Tsui Hark's Seven Swords is decent.

I agree - is that the official US trailer? Some of those cheesy looking "subtitles" were misspelled (not totally uncommon, but...) and the voice over was horrible.
