Re: The off-topic topic

Stupid board says I've been gone for 3 1/2 years.
Can't be that long. I just walked out for a quick pint is all. :icon_suspect:

Hey kids.
Did I miss anything?
Except last year? and the year before? and the year before that? ;)
I see the usual suspects are still around.

Re: Pet Hates

Hi, Tom. Nice to see you again. How about making a comeback? Hello, Hungfist my old buddy. :) No thanks, I see you've still got major troll issues around here. And that's probably my BIGGEST pet hate. :rage: Over the years I've developed an allergy to useless bullshit, which means most internet for...

Hello, people. Long time no see.

My pet hate:
People who stand still on escalators.
For fuck's sake, it's not a rollercoaster. It doesn't have bars to prevent you from leaning forward. It's a moving staircase. Move your fat arse!

Re: Is 6.1 and 7.1 worth it? Is Lossless much better than Lossy?

Hey, Brad. Long time no see! * For those who have 6.1 and 7.1 setups are they much better than 5.1? I went from 5.1 to 6.1 and it made zero difference. You really can't tell that there's an additional speaker. 7.1 might be a different story, though. You might be able to place your speakers further a...

Quick comparison: The Chaser Korean 2-Disc vs French Blu-Ray

As usual: -Some snapshots might be off by a frame or two. Sorry about that. -The DVD was upscaled to 1920x1080 using Bicubic resize in VirtualDubMod. -The Blu-Ray transfer is decoded by CoreAVC. Snapshots come from Media Player Classic. - No english subs on the BD. For more specs, go there: Link . D...

Re: Quick Comparison: Stormriders Puzzle World BD vs UK DVD

Yeah, there's a perfectly healthy DTS-HD track for cantonese and a basic Dolby 5.1 track for mandarin.
But the people who need uncompressed sound are f*cked.

Re: Quick Comparison: Stormriders Puzzle World BD vs UK DVD

Quick Update: I've now seen the film in full. There are good news and bad news. Good news: -The disc is indeed compatible with region B players. Bad news: -The picture quality is a lot worse in full motion than in those screencaps. The whole film looks like a moving oil painting. Fairly horrible TB...

Re: Quick Comparison: Stormriders Puzzle World BD vs UK DVD

@Brad: Puzzle World is the name of the company distributing the film on BD. Asianblurayguide.com lists 3 separate releases but Puzzle World isn't mentioned anywhere. So it's a bit confusing. @Shingster: It does look like macro-blocking around the edges, doesn't it? Weird, because with this much DNR,...

Quick Comparison: Stormriders Puzzle World BD vs UK DVD

This is a quick and dirty comparison between: The Puzzle World Blu-Ray disc which I bought here: http://www.yesasia.com/global/the-storm-riders-blu-ray-remastered-us-version/1020261755-0-0-0-en/info.html which is supposed to be region-free (I'll be able to confirm this pretty soon). The director's c...

Did I read it wrong? Damn. *Reads again* The WHO said that "consistent and correct" condom use reduces the risk of HIV infection by 90 per cent. "Consistent and correct use reduces risk by 90%", but compared to what? -not using a condom at all? -using a condom inconsistently and ...

If it is true that condoms "only" reduce the risks by 90%, then I agree with the pope. To hell with condoms! Go abstinence!

But honestly I'm not entirely convinced.
I think condoms reduce the risks by much more than 90%, and it is therefore quite safe to use them.

Who?
The social worker guy or the rapist?

I'd say both.

My Mighty Princess (Korea - 2007 - By Kwak Jae-Young with Shin Mina): 2 / 5 Kinda like a cross between My Sassy Girl and Arahan. Only not very good. There are too many flashbacks in the second half of the film. Granted, they are necessary to fill in the blanks, but they completely destroy the pace....

Does the Oppo allow upscaling through Component? Not the model I've got. In the end I've gone with the 2->1 HDMI switch idea. Bit expensive but works like a charm. And I can confirm that a Blu-Ray transfer in 1080i HDMI looks better than in 1080i YUV (on my setup anyway). Less grain & more fine...

Blu-Ray discs with ICT enabled ?

Note: ICT = Image Constraint Token. It's something that prevents HD videos from being sent at a higher resolution than 576p through analog cables (like component / YUV). Yep. In the redux version, the cantonese-speaking cast is speaking cantonese and the mandarin-speaking cast is speaking mandarin.

Brigitte Lin's schizophrenic character sounds a lot better in her native mandarin IMO.
That's the only good thing I can say about Redux.
